Formerly the northern Selous, Nyerere is Africa's largest national park — a watery wilderness of channels, lakes and miombo woodland where safaris happen by boat as often as by vehicle.
The Rufiji River is Nyerere's lifeblood: boat safaris drift past hippos, crocodiles and elephant herds on the banks, while game drives explore one of the last strongholds of the African wild dog. Just a short flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, it's the easiest 'remote' park in Tanzania.
