The Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros — earned their name from early hunters who considered them the most dangerous animals to track on foot. Today they are the most sought-after sightings on safari, and Tanzania remains one of the very few countries where you can realistically see all five in a single trip.
Ngorongoro Crater is the jewel of any Big Five itinerary. The crater floor packs around 25,000 large animals into 260 square kilometres, including one of Africa's densest lion populations and a resident herd of critically endangered black rhino — your best chance anywhere in northern Tanzania of ticking off the hardest member of the five.
Add Tarangire's vast elephant herds in the dry season and the Serengeti's big-cat country, and you have a circuit where a full Big Five is not luck but design. Our guides are in daily radio contact with a network of spotters, and because every Natureloop safari is private, the vehicle stays at a sighting for as long as you want it to.

Yes — on a well-planned 6 to 8 day itinerary combining Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire, most of our guests see all five. The black rhino is the hardest; Ngorongoro Crater gives you the best odds in East Africa.
