The Great Migration is the largest movement of land animals on Earth, and this itinerary is built to put you in its path. After Tarangire, you'll track the herds through the central Serengeti before three nights in the far north, where between July and October the wildebeest gather for their dramatic Mara River crossings.
Routing shifts with the seasons — in calving months we reposition to the southern plains — because the migration is a moving story and we follow it.
Day by Day
Arrival, transfer to your Arusha lodge and a migration briefing with your guide — including where the herds are right now.
Afternoon game drive in Tarangire — a gentler start before the journey north, with elephants and baobabs in abundance.
Cross the highlands onto the plains. The central Serengeti's resident predators make every drive rewarding, whatever the herds are doing.
Game drives through the Seronera valley — lion, leopard and cheetah country — with the flexibility to range toward wherever the herds are grazing.
A full-day game-drive transfer north through changing habitats toward the Mara River, where the migration gathers between July and October.
Position along the Mara River with your guide reading herd movement. When a crossing builds, you'll be there — thousands of wildebeest plunging into crocodile waters.
A second full day on the river and surrounding plains — crossings, big cats, and the sheer spectacle of a quarter-million animals on the move.
Fly from Kogatende airstrip (or game-drive south) toward the Ngorongoro highlands for a cool green evening at a Karatu lodge.
Descend into the crater for a final morning game drive — the perfect closing act — before returning to Arusha for departure.
July–October for Mara River crossings in the north; January–March for the southern plains calving season. We adjust the routing to match the herds.
